In 1940, America was still staggering its way out of the Great Depression and war clouds were rolling in from Europe. The upcoming Presidential campaign spotlight turned to perhaps the unlikeliest, but certainly the most entertaining, candidate of all - Gracie Allen.
Politics was perfect for Gracie's particular brand of logical illogic. Join the hilarity, and the throngs of supporters, as George Burns, Gracie, and their entire cast embark on a whistle-stop tour all the way to the Surprise Party's national convention in Omaha, Nebraska. This quirky collection includes 12 surviving “campaign” episodes of the classic Burns & Molly; Allen radio program, as well as “campaign stops” by Gracie on the Jack Benny and Fibber McGee & Molly radio programs. Plus, a Program Guide by radio historian Elizabeth McLeod with photographs and background information about the shows.

Gracie For President!
Radio was the perfect medium for the comedic duo of George Burns & Gracie Allen. They didn't *do* funny things...they *said* funny things. As popular and long-running as their TV show might have been it pales, in my opinion, to their sponsored shows for Swan Soap and Maxwell House Coffee. GRACIE FOR PRESIDENT spotlights broadcasts of The Hinds Honey and Almond Cream Program, with a story arc that finds our beloved Gracie running as a U.S. Presidential candidate (on behalf of the Surprise Party!) on some of radio's funniest half-hours. Included on the set are guest appearances by Gracie on her husband's best friend's program for Jell-O (yes, it's Jack Benny!) and on The Johnson Wax Program with Fibber McGee & Molly that introduces one of that show's funniest and most durable running gags.
